    employment

Tipjar LLC is hiring. Unfortunately, until we are either profitable or funded, we can't pay anyone except in the form of tab entries in the tipjar back-pay system. The offsetting news is that your owed wages will earn continuously compounded interest until we can pay them. Which makes the company volunteer-operated at the moment. There are two broad teams, "engineering" and "communications." You may offer to be on one side, the other, or both. If you would like to log some hours doing something productive, please
    drop me a line.

    investors

Tipjar LLC needs capital, if for nothing other than to get the flying monkeys some t-shirts. No really, the business projects require angel sponsorship. If you would like to adopt any of the tipjar.com business projects, I would be very
    happy to hear from you.

    business partners

Collaborative joint ventures are good. If you see a way we can work together, please
    communicate your vision.

    free transaction service

The original tipjar idea occurred while David Nicol was treasurer of the UMKC ACM student chapter. This was the early nineties, and the CGI standard for the environment in which computer programs that generate dynamic web pages had just appeared, so Dave decided to create a dynamic web page to assist with the registration and membership in the club, which at that time collected dues. While doing this he realized that what he was working on, a web interface to a checkbook, could be solved in a much more general way. The other officers of the club found the idea of creating a new business venture that would have customers outside the department outside the club's scope, so Dave had to go it alone.

The earliest versions of this (/index.html) page contained the basic give form, which is still in operation, although the vault has not been running for some time pending finding a suitable collaborator to help with the operation of the company in case something were to happen to me.

    the give form interface

The give/dogive form handlers are extremely simple, as web service interfaces go. They take URL-encoded data, following the CGI standard, which was still young when they were designed. Here is a list of keys recognized by the /bin/dogive page: the /bin/give page sets up a form handled by dogive.

    tipjar identities

(discuss identities, nicknames, aliases, possibility of having an identity clearinghouse, and keeping it all user-driven instead of business-driven)

    liaison system

    (discuss liaison system)

Minimum Tip: sender-pays messaging since 1996

The earliest tipjar system had a "minimum tip accepted" receiver configuration setting. Tips below that amount were not delivered, including their messages. That constituted a sender-pays messaging system.

    spam elimination system

A whitelisting service with a sender-pays component. Was up briefly in 2003 and 2004 but is currently down. Envisioned as the earliest of the tipjar ventures to become profitable, profit to drive other business units. When relaunched, will default to taking "tipjarium" an expiring currency obtainable in exchange for completing reCaptcha puzzles rather than national currency. Tipjarium to be bought and sold in the tipjar currencies market. Requires legal review.

a continuous auction of continuously compounding debt

suitable for private individuals (like prosper, but slightly different) and for businesses (and for nations, for that matter) In short, the customer for this business unit is anyone who wants to reduce their weighted average cost of capital. And who doesn't?
